Exercise – The Magic Pill

If there were a single medication you could take, with no side effects that would help reduce your risk of developing or dying from many chronic diseases, would you take it? Of course you would.
Daily physical activity is that magic pill.
As a growing number of Americans continue to grapple with obesity and as a result, chronic medical illnesses, we’re reminded nearly every day that exercise is regarded as the only real effective method to prevent and treat many of these conditions. Physicians, healthcare professionals, insurers and government bodies are all repositioning Exercise as the solution to health, wellness and longevity.
In a recent report published in The Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, researchers documented the dramatic effect that exercise has in extending longevity. “Exercise alters the course of aging,” concluded lead researcher and professor of pediatrics, Dr. Mark Tarnopolsky. “Every part of the body is protected by exercise,” he explained. “I think it’s the most potent anti-aging therapy available today, and likely forever.”
The case for exercise has never been more compelling and it takes only small steps to make great changes, according to the Centers for Disease Control. Guidelines vary by age, but most agree that thirty minutes of moderate physical activity every day is needed.
